This past year i have been researching and testing a variety of methods for building flash web venues that take into consideration SEO, deep-linking, and browser compatability. There have been several examples and solutions provided by the flash community over the past year around some of these problems - BUT - none of them were complete solutions for all the issues - only half baked. The only full solution i have found so far is called SWFAddress by Asual - and is used in combination with deconcept’s SWFObject script. Read the rest of this entry »

IE

Hmmm. After one year of Microsoft’s IE update, they have announced plans to remove the “click to activate” function to allow Active X content to respond as it did previous to November 2006. Check out the nice info the Adobe Development Forum put together.

I am glad to see general stumbling blocks removed from the paths of others, however this will not be effecting my preferred embed process as it still offers many options for good user experience issues, search engine optimization, browser connectivity, and deeplinking.

Flash

There has been an evolution of techniques for embedding flash and other active content over time. In the old days - you used to be able to simply let the flash publish settings create the “object” & “embed” tags in your html file and off you went live into the internets… then back in 2006 we ended up with some issues with flash not running in an IE browser until the flash object was clicked on by the user. this happened after a major update microsoft releases for IE users, bleh… Read the rest of this entry »
